EVENT REVIEW: Groote Post Country Market

EVENT REVIEW: Groote Post Country Market

Is the hustle and bustle of city life getting to you? If so, why not head out to Groote Post this Sunday, 24th November for a family day jammed packed with fun, relaxation and deliciousness. It is all happening at their idyllic Country Market, which is snuggled in the hills around the beautiful town of #HelloDarling!

Firstly the scenic drive from Worcester to Darling is just beautiful. We took a slightly different route instead of taking the obvious choice of the N1/R304. We chose hit the R43 via Wolsley, Gouda, Malmesbury, Riebeek Kasteel and then Darling.

What a sight and transformation. The last time I was out in that area was heavy with drought. Now everything is green, luscious and the farm dams are dancing with happiness as most of them are almost full.

The weather on this particular day was Miserable with a capital “M” but we not complaining as the much need rain is such a blessing. Besides, if there was one thing I learnt about being in England and that is they don’t allow the rain to stop them!

Besides, personally for me, that is the best time to take a Sunday cruise. I don’t know why… perhaps Sunday drives was a thing when growing up and brings happy memories. My mom used to pack in padkos, we would just climb in the car and take a drive somewhere, then stop somewhere, have a carnic (car picnic) and stopping at the many farm stalls which was all over the Cape.

Anyway – needing a mini brake from all the hustle and bustle, the Groote Post Country Market is just for you! 😎😎😎

What YOU can expect at the Groote Post Country Market!

Well, first things first – GREAT WINE!!! Highly recommendable: Groote Post Pinot Noir Rose! Gorgeous coral pink colour – hints of rose petals, cherry and raspberries on the nose. What you smell is what you get! These notes come through well on the palate. Excellent balance of acidity and dryness and fruitiness and it all ends off with a lingering creaminess. The perfect wine to enjoy on a miserable spring day or the perfect lazy sunny Sunday afternoon.

Of course, no doubt, you can expect to find delicious tasty morsels, such as the offerings of local artisanal foods, arts and crafts, home-ware, clothing, decor, gifts, jewellery, accessories, toys, fresh produce and more.

Local is lekker!

Oh Boy!! Did we have a mouthwatering and delicious burger for lunch!! Hubby was happy! We need to keep the driver happy don’t we? Man, did he soooooooo enjoyed Burger Fellas homemade burgers. Burger patty; tasty and juicy, nice amount of fillings (not over the top, but also not too skimpy) and the sauce was goooooood! Hubby lovingly joked and said: “Glad he didn’t ask for steak. Goodness knows where we would have ended up.” 🤣🤣

Sadly, due to the rain, most of the stalls had packed up and left, however the few that endured the weather, I just want to say THANK YOU! I am ever so grateful that you stuck it out. Huge Thank you to Darling Meats!! You made my day… managed to get some extra padkos for the long trip home (2h15min).

For those who don’t know Darling Meats makes the most amazing….Red Wine, Whiskey, Brandy and Gin infused Salami! I mean… really!!! This is exactly, what My Boozy Kitchen is all about. Booze infused food!!!

On a good sunny day – local is lekker at Groote Post, and there is a wonderful selection of stalls to make the tummy happy! You will find: Weskus Worswa, Darling Honey, Burger Fellas, Darling Sweets, Nellies Homemade Pies, and ever so popular Darling Brew!

The Groote Post Country Market will be welcoming a few newcomers to the market, such as Sunshine Food Company’s Vegan Stand, Najo’s Mexican Street Food and more… So make sure you come and support these guys!!!

Of course this is a fun filled day for the entire family including the kiddies! They can be kept merrily busy with exciting and fun activities such as tractor trips, guided horse rides and, of course, the popular playground and rolling lawns. This is just perfect for the mommies and the daddies. While the kiddies getting rid of all their energy, you can just relax under the trees, sipping on some fine wine, having good food while lazily listening to live modern country pop music by Corne Louw! I mean “maagies vol; oogies toe!” You can even catch a quick Sunday afternoon snooze 😴😴 – there is no judging here!!

Tractor Rides

Heck, you can even bring your furbabies along! (Just make sure they stay on the leash, we don’t want them wandering off drinking all the wine – do we now? 😜😜)
