Wherever possible, the ingredients are organic, seasonal, gluten-free, low-GI, chemical and preservative-free, non-GMO, detox-friendly, raw and loaded with vitamins and minerals. No refined sugar or oils, synthetic ingredients or unhealthy fats are used. Honey substitutes include agave syrup, coconut nectar or maple syrup (Canadian maple syrup when available). Balducci only use Himalayan or sea salt and non-irradiated herbs and spices. Slow cooking and the use of ingredients dried at low temperatures maximises the availability of nutrients.
Balducci’s Commitment to the Community and Environment
The Slick Restaurant Group’s commitment to the environment includes the use of menus printed on recycled paper with sustainable ink, recycled paper bags printed with vegetable ink and phasing out the use of disposable plastic products. They only use recycled (FDA approved) paper straws and straws made from corn and maize starch, and Balducci supports alien clearing by only using alien wood types in their pizza oven.
The Slick Restaurant Group’s passion extends to the local community. A vision to serve others and to make a difference has led to a partnership with Tygerberg Hospital assisting them in increasing the number of corneal transplants undertaken by their Department of Ophthalmology. Slick Restaurant Group company donations together with help from generous customers at their three restaurants resulted in the first lamellar corneal surgery being performed at Tygerberg Hospital on Mrs Gladys Maistry from Eersterivier on 10th May 2018, restoring her sight.
Since then another 12 life-changing operations have taken place and scleral contact lenses, sophisticated soft lenses, are being imported and made available to eligible Tygerberg Hospital patients. This unique private-public-partnership between the Slick Restaurant Group and Tygerberg Hospital will continue ‘Giving a Helping Hand to Someone in the Dark’, with operations set to take place on a frequent basis. Donations to this deserving initiative can be made via the Slick Restaurant Group website – please visit slickrestaurants.com/social-responsibility/.
“There is no better way to thank God for your sight than by giving a helping hand to someone in the dark” (Helen Keller, 1880 – 1968)
